All MetroBus Service Will Change June 29

WMATA'S NEW BUS PLAN EXPLAINED

Presentations and meeting at Blessed Sacrament

Tuesday, June 24, 7:00 to 9:00 pm

After more than two years of planning and feedback from the community, WMATA's Better Bus Network begins its implementation starting June 29th. It is the first full redesign of the bus system in 50 years. Every route number will change in DC, MD, and VA, some bus stops will be eliminated, and the days and frequency of service will change on many routes. Some folks will have to transfer who didn't before, and vice versa. The extent of the changes varies by route but Metro’s Trip Planner can show users what their trips will look like in the future with the new bus network.

What's going to happen to the M4, E4, L2, L8, and other bus routes that you use?

Learn how the new plan will affect you and how you will be able to get around.

On Tuesday, June 24 beginning at 7 pm, through a joint collaboration of the Chevy Chase Community Association (CCCA), the Friends of Bus Transit (FoBus), and WMATA, are holding an event titled "WMATA's New Bus Plan Explained." While there's lots of buzz from WMATA this month, including some bus stop chats and their staff riding buses, we will be covering details that you won't find covered anywhere else. The event is open to all, but the presenters will mostly focus on the changes that will be taking place in areas west of Rock Creek Park.

This in-person event will be held at Blessed Sacrament, at its 3630 Quesada St. location in the Parish Center.

[Enter the back of the building from the parking lot. The meeting room is on the main floor. Signs and volunteers will be there to direct you. (Note: this is not the Chevy Chase Parkway school entrance).] Light refreshments will be provided.

There will be three parts to the evening:

1. A video presentation by WMATA's outreach team on the new system, which will include:

    - Why they've changed the whole system

    - In broad strokes, what they're changing and the impact it will have

    - Tools, both current and new, to help riders get around

    - A new way to pay for fares (on Metrorail now, on buses later this year)

2. A presentation by FoBus on the nitty-gritty details, to include:

    - A breakdown of every line that goes through, to, and from our neighborhoods

    - A focus on new signage, transfer points and bus stops being eliminated

    - Where bus stops will be at Friendship Heights and Tenleytown Metro stations

    - Changes to Ride-On service to/from Bethesda, Kensington/Wheaton, and Silver Spring

    - What FoBus will be doing in the second half of this year

3. A lengthy Q&A, when you'll have an opportunity to ask questions like:

    - "Where will I catch the bus where I live and which line(s) will come there?"

    - "How do I get from my house to my medical appointments on New Mexico Avenue?"

    - "How will I, or my domestic worker, or my employees travel from across Rock Creek Park?"

...or any other question you may have.

Information on this event can be found on CCCA's website, https://cccadc.org/  .

If you send an RSVP to fobus-input@groups.io we can get an idea of how many folks plan to attend.  (This is helpful for us, yet optional for you.)
